Your first moca go straight to another pair of mocas. Then coax signal is distributed to the house. It is my understanding that when you connect router to moca, it converts the cat6 signal to coax signal. The key difference being that the "PoE" MoCA filter would be installed on the input port of the secondary splitter, not the top-level 2-way splitter. Plenty of people and simple enough to address: just use a 2-way splitter to feed the modem directly, and a secondary splitter for the rest of the endpoints. made possible by the dual coax/Cat5+ connectivity between the modem/router router location and the central junction, not always a given. (But get planning for isolation.)Īnother good example: before and after. Do it from the start if at all possible, but a "prophylactic" MoCA filter is usually sufficient to remedy the present, short-term hassle of a MoCA-sensitive DOCSIS 3.1 modem. Isolating the modem from the MoCA-infused coax should always be the goal, if possible, to future proof the setup for DOCSIS 3.1+, but the necessity is more near- or long-term. (Or with the extra Cat5+ runs unnecessary if they just move the modem & router to the Basement location.) It is the preferable way to do so, provided a number of givens, and is what I suggested in their earlier thread, here, assuming they could get a couple Cat5+ runs between the central junction in the Basement and the Kitchen to keep the Router centrally positioned in the Kitchen. OP, do you mind if I use your diagram as the "better method" of implementing MoCA without the need for a PoE filter for others who ask in the future? u/plooger, why isn't this the best way to implement MoCA? With the feed line directly into the modem, and the splitter only used to support MoCA Adapters? Seems very clean and ideal. The modem gets a clean feed line without sharing coax with MoCA, while the MoCA network is completely on its own, secure and maintaining the best signal quality. No PoE filter needed, yet no way to leak signal outside the house. I actually think this topology should be the default way this sub recommends for using MoCA. Of course this diagram only works if you do not get cable TV as well, but who still uses cable TV? It completely separates the modem signals from the MoCA ones, and retains the cleanest environment for MoCA. This is actually a very clever way to hook things up and avoid needing a PoE Filter for MoCA, and is the new way I'll been recommending to others. u/RoweDent created this awesome resource on network theory u/tht1kidd_ has created a suggestion post regarding information everyone needs to provide when asking a question about their network There have been some excellent guides written in this sub, and we're always looking for more!
